Teologia zwierząt jest refleksją teologiczną nad rolą zwierząt w planie zbawienia. A jako że teologia w ogólności opiera się na relacji Boga ze stworzeniem, powinna być pełnoprawną dziedziną teologiczną. Powinna. Ale nie jest. Należałoby wręcz powiedzieć, niestety, że teologia zwierząt nie istnieje. Ale, jeśli nie rozumie się teologii zbyt wąsko, ale włącza się w jej nurt różne ludzkie myśli i dążenia (a myśli dotyczące zwierząt czy całości stworzenia w relacji do Boga nieobce były wielu świętym, a także świętym-uczonym) to można uznać, że istnieje, choć na pewno nie sformalizowana i akademicka, gdyż jak powiedziano, działy teologii, które najwięcej mogłyby na ten temat powiedzieć, przede wszystkim teologia dogmatyczna czy teologia moralna, niemal milczą o zwierzętach.
Mimo to, w tym artykule postaram się ukazać – zgodne, mam nadzieję, z Objawieniem i metafizyką chrześcijańską – zręby teologii zwierząt, opierając się na myśli świętego Tomasza z Akwinu i anglikańskiego teologa Andrew Linzeya. To połączenie może wydawać się na początku bardzo egzotyczne, ale według mnie postaci te w tajemniczy sposób uzupełniają się wzajemnie.
Zacznę jednak od podstawowych kwestii: dlaczego w ogóle dziś teologia milczy o zwierzętach, oraz dlaczego nie powinna milczeć.Więcej Info

This volume is a project in systematic theology: a rigorous engagement with the Christian tradition in relation to animals under the doctrinal headings of creation, reconciliation and redemption and in dialogue with the Bible and theological voices central to the tradition. The book shows that such engagement with the tradition with the question of the animal in mind produces surprising answers that challenge modern anthropocentric assumptions. For the most part, therefore, the novelty of the project lies in the questions raised, rather than the proposal of innovative answers to it.

Książka jest ważnym głosem w dyskusji o miejscu zwierząt w świecie i o tym, jak chrześcijańska teologia może przyczynić się do właściwego ich traktowania. W pierwszej części pracy autor przedstawia szereg argumentów i zasad teologii zwierząt. W drugiej omawia obszary wykorzystywania zwierząt: eksperymenty, polowanie dla rozrywki, zabijanie dla pożywienia czy inżynierię genetyczną. Linzey jest przekonany, że wiara we wcielonego, miłosiernego Boga może pomóc chrześcijanom dostrzec cierpienia istot stworzonych.
